Dr. Lixin Zhu, an early-career ocean professional with over a decade of experience in environmental science and aquatic biogeochemistry, investigates the sources, dispersal, fate, and ecological impacts of marine plastic debris and microplastics. His research focuses on the photodegradation of dissolved organic matter and marine plastic debris, their effects on marine biogeochemical cycles, and the complex interactions between plastics, marine microbes, and associated leaching chemicals. Dr. Zhu’s work spans diverse regions, including the coastal waters of China, Southeast Asia, the West Pacific Ocean, the North Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and the deep sea. Beyond advancing scientific knowledge, he is committed to integrating research findings into actionable policies and sustainable management practices, collaborating with local, regional, and international networks to bridge the gap between science and policy. His work aligns closely with ESG principles by fostering sustainable solutions to marine pollution, advocating for environmental stewardship, and supporting governance frameworks that ensure a resilient and equitable future.
