Dr. Dhanya M. currently serves as assistant professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, Kerala, India. She has an MSc degree in Physics and an MTech degree in Atmospheric Sciences. She received PhD from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The title of her PhD thesis is “Improved simulation of meteorological systems over India: Impact of assimilating satellite observations using 3dvar and EnKf” . This work involved the assimilation of remote sensing observations in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model using 3-dimensional variational technique as well as the ensemble Kalman filter technique. Presently, her research is focused on numerical modelling as well as the application of AI/ML tools to problems in Earth science. She is also involved in the development of rainfall threshold models useful for landslide early warning and disaster mitigation.
