Mr. Kamal Rohitha Uduwawala, the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, is a Special Grade Public Servant in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. He earned a Bachelor of Science (Special) degree in Physics from the University of Peradeniya from 1990 to 1994 and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, from 2007 to 2008.
His research qualification includes the design and construction of a “Simple Digital Electronic Vote Counter” (No. 11054), for which a patent was granted on 27 February 1997 by the Registrar of Patents and Trademarks.
He served as Secretary of the State Ministry of Production, Supply & Regulation of Pharmaceuticals and as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Education; the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils & Local Government; and the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology & Innovation. Additionally, he was Chairman of the Standing Committee on Accreditation & Quality Assurance (SCAQA) for Higher Education Institutes (2018/2019) and Additional Director General of the Department of Management Services, General Treasury.
