The nexus of biodiversity and culture for local economic development

This policy brief presents a case study example from Sumba Island, Indonesia, on the role indigenous peoples play in conserving biodiversity. The brief showcases approaches on how the relationship between biodiversity and culture can be closely explored such as the use of a positive and appreciative approach to understand sustainable economic development possibilities within a community. Such an approach was applied by Sekar Kawung, a social enterprise organization working with local artisans to create sustainable products for consumers.
